舞妓はん Maiko Experience

京都にはたくさん舞妓体験できるところがありますね。

いつも気にはなっていたのですが、なかなか敷居は高く…。（年齢が…）


この６月に姉と京都に行ったとき、とうとう挑戦してみることになりました。


Do you know there are many studios in Kyoto where you can dress up like Maiko and have your pictures taken?

I knew that for a long time, but didn't have guts to give it a try. (my age…）


Finally, this June, when I visited Kyoto with my sister, we gathered all our courage to try it.




たくさんある中で、私たちが選んだのは　「ぎをん彩」

Out of many studios, we chose "Gion Aya."

祇園の八坂神社の近くにあって、もとお茶屋さんだった建物だそうです。
建物そのものも素敵で興味深かったです。

It is located in Gion, close to Yasaka Shrine.
They made the old Ochaya (restaurant-house) into the studio.
So the studio itself was very nice and interesting.



ざっとこんな感じです。（基本プランです。）

まず最初にロッカールームで白い襦袢と足袋になります。

それからお化粧。白、黒、赤の三色しか使いません。
そして髪。

着物、帯、花かんざしは自分で選べます。
初夏でしたので藤を選びました。

着付けてもらって撮影。

坪庭で少し自由に写真など撮り、着物を脱いでロッカールームへ。
石鹸、シャンプー、タオルなどちゃんと揃っています。

帰り支度ができた頃には写真も出来上がっているというわけです。


This is how it goes. (their basic plan.)

First, we went to a locker room and changed into white Juban (undergarment) and Tabi(socks).

Then, they gave us makeup.
Interestingly, they only used three colors, white, red and black.
They also fixed our hair.

We could choose our Kimono, Obi and hair accessories.
As it was in the early summer, I picked wisteria.

Then they dressed us up and the photograper took our pictures.

After spending sometime in their small garden, we took off the kimono and then went back to the locker room.
They had everything we needed; soap, shampoo, and towels.

When we were ready to go, the pictures were ready, too.




合計で２時間半くらいかかったでしょうか。でもとっても楽しかったです。
スタッフの方たちもみんないい人たちでした。

これから京都は紅葉のベストシーズン。

In total, it took about 2.5 hours, but it was so fun and interesting.
The staff were excellent.

京都下鴨神社 Shimogamo Jinja in Kyoto

京都が好きで、何度も行っています。
この間の週末は、下鴨神社へ行ってきました。

I love Kyoto, and I have visited there many times.
Last weekend, I visited Shimogamo Jinja.

下鴨神社には５５棟の社殿と「糺（ただす）の森」と呼ばれる広大な森があります。

京都で最も古い神社の一つで世界遺産にも選ばれています。

Shimogamo Jinja consists of 55 shrine buidlings and a big forest called Tadasu-no-mori.
It is one of the oldest shrine in Kyoto, and a registered world cultural heritage site.



「糺（ただす）の森」は静かで神秘的な感じ。

The forest is filled with mystic air.

これは「連理の賢木」

This is called Renri-no-Sakaki.

２本の木が中ほどでつながっていて縁結びのシンボルとなっています。

その隣にはえんむすびのお社相生社があります。

Two trees are mysteriously intertwined and have become one.
The shrine next to the trees, called Aioi-sha, is dedicated to the god of good marriage.


そのお社で源氏物語にちなんだおみくじを頂くことができます。

There, you can get a fortune slip, which is based on the Tale of Genji.

私が引いたのはなんと大吉。
「ふたりのあいだにははいりこむすきがありません」とのこと。

結婚して２０年の夫が喜ぶに違いありません。（笑）

I got "excellent luck."
It said "Nothing would get between you and your partner."


My husband of 20 years must weep with joy! Ha!




結婚式をあげているカップルに遭遇。

I was lucky to come across a wedding ceremony.

なんて素敵なカップル。
どうぞお幸せに。

They were a beautiful couple.
I hope they will be very happy together.

おまいりを終えた後、下鴨名物みたらし団子のお店を訪ねました。
加茂みたらし茶屋。
「下鴨神社」のバス停の近くにあります。
おいしかったです～。

After I visited the shrine, I went to eat the famous Mitarashi Dango.
The shop, Kamo Mitarashi Dango Jaya, is near the bus stop "Shimogamo Jinja."
It was very good.

心が洗われたひと時でした。

I felt very refreshed and full of energy again.

88景 井の頭の池弁天の社 Inokashira Pond Benten Shrine

ちょっと想像がつかないですが、これが井の頭公園の昔の姿です。

ずいぶん広々していますねえ。
池の中には弁財天。
遠くの山は日光の山々ということですが。

Can you imagine that?
This is what we now call Inokashira Park.
It is so vast!
There is the Benten Shrine in the pond.
The distant mountains are said to be Nikko.

今の公園はこんな感じ。

Nowadays, the park is filled with....



高い木々におおわれて

tall trees,

家族連れや恋人たちでいっぱい

a lot of families and lovers...

そしてすばらしい大道芸人たちもいました！

and wonderful performers.

江戸時代、井の頭池は水量豊富な湧水池。

一方江戸は埋立地も多く、きれいな飲み水が不足していました。
そこで徳川家康が井の頭池から江戸まで水路を引くよう命じ、
この水が江戸の人々の飲み水となったわけです。

これが神田上水と呼ばれました。

The Inokashira Pond  is a spring-fed pond, and it was very affluent.
On the other hand, in Edo, it was not easy to get clean drinking water.
(As Edo was expanded by landfilling the shallow sea. )
So, in the beginning of Edo era, Tokugawa Ieyasu ordered to make a channel from this pond to Edo and this pond became the source of drinking water in Edo.

It was called Kanda Josui (waterworks).



この小さな流れが神田川の始まり。

So, this is the very beginning of Kanda River.

江戸まで流れていきます。

It flows into Edo.

さて、弁財天は池の西の端にあります。

The Benten Shrine stands at the west of the pond.

もともと源頼朝が１１９７年に建てたそうです。
江戸時代将軍たちもたびたびここを訪れました。
そもそも井の頭と命名したのは３代将軍家光。
財と才を授ける女神として江戸の人々の信仰を集めました。

The shrine was first built by Minamoto-no Yoritomo in 1197.
Tokugawa Shoguns visited here, too.
In fact, it was the third Shogun Iemitsu that named the pond Inokashira.
As a Goddess of prosperity and talent, it was worshipped by people of Edo.

さて今はどんなふうに見えるでしょうか？

So now, let's see how it looks now...

橋、社、池は一緒ですが、高い木々の緑におおわれすぎです。

ちょっと惜しい！

The bridge, the shrine and  the pond are the same.
But the tall trees covered the sky.
Oh, well.



でもとても気持ちのいい一日でした。
木々にもかすかに秋を感じました。

Still, it was a plesant day, and I could feel the autumn in the air.
