91景 猿わか町よるの景 Night view of Saruwaka-machi

これも好きな一枚です。
お月様が明るく通りを照らし、道行く人の影を投げかけています。
広重の作品で影が描かれているのは珍しいです。

This is one of my favorites.

The moon is casting people's shadows on the street.
This is quite unique because Hiroshige usually didn't paint shadows in his pictures.

満月が明るいですね。
人通りはありますが、なんとなく静かで落ち着いた雰囲気です。

The full moon is so bright.

Though the street is busy, this picture has somewhat a calm, quiet atmosphere.

ここは浅草近くの猿若町。
広重の時代には歌舞伎芝居の町として栄えていました。

This is Saruwaka-machi near Asakusa; a Kabuki town in Hiroshige's time.




通りの右側には３つの歌舞伎小屋が並んでいます。
手前から森田座、市村座、中村座。
屋根の上にやぐらがありますね。
幕府公認の芝居小屋にのみ許されていたもので、当時はこの３座のみだったそうですよ。




On the right of the street, there are three Kabuki theaters,
Morita-za, Ichimura-za and Nakamura-za.
You see big boxes on the roof?
Those are called Yagura and it means the theater is authorized by the Tokugawa government.
There were only these three theaters with Yagura in Edo in those days.




左側には人形芝居小屋が２つとたくさんの芝居茶屋があったそうです。


On the left, there were two puppet show theaters and many restaurants.




現在は浅草６丁目と呼ばれていますが、この地が江戸時代にぎわった猿若町であったことを示す石碑がありました。


The area is now called Asakusa 6 Chome.
But this stone monument reminds people that it was prospered Saruwaka-machi in Edo era.

絵の中で、赤い短冊にほとんど隠れている最初のやぐらは森田座のもの。
その場所にも石碑がありました。

The first Yagura which is almost hidden behind the red title is that of Morita-za.

This is where Morita-za was. 

２番目のやぐらが市村座のもので、一番奥が中村座のものです。

The second Yagura is that of Ichimura-za, the third, that of Nakamura-za.

芝居町としての繁栄は過去のものとなってしまいました。
今はその界隈は靴や皮革を扱う会社が並んでいます。


It seems the Kabuki town is long gone.
Now, on both side of the street, there are companies dealing with shoes and leather goods.


でも、一軒だけ昔の名残のようなお店がありました。
藤波小道具店です！！


But I found a trace of the Kabuki town, Fujinami Props Company!!

そして、そこにこんなポスターが貼ってありました！


And then, I saw a sign there!

｢浅草の隅田公園に平成中村座が帰ってくる！」


「平成２３年１１月より平成２４年５月まで歌舞伎ロングラン公演」
とあるではありませんか！

It says "Nakamura-za is back in Asakusa!"


From November 2011 to May 2012, Nakamura-za is presenting  Kabuki in a temporary theater in Sumida Park.




いや、全く知りませんでした。なんてラッキー！
ちょっと行ってみましょう。


Oh, I didn't know that.  What perfect timing!
I have to go and check.




たくさんののぼりを見ました。


I saw a lot of Nobori (flags) welcoming the Nakamura-za.

中村座を歓迎して地元の提灯もずらり。
浅草の人達は大喜びでしょう。


I saw lanterns welcoming the Nakamura-za.
People in Asakusa must be very happy that they are back.

これが仮設の芝居小屋。
背後には東京スカイツリーもばっちり見えます。


This is the temporary theater.
Behind, you can see the tower of Tokyo Sky Tree!

これがやぐらですね。
屋根の上じゃなくて壁についてましたけれど。


This is their Yagura, not on the roof but on the wall.

さて、それでは今と昔を比べてみましょう。


Now, let's compare it's Now and Then.

通りは残っていましたが、すっかり様変わりですね。
ま、仕方ないです。


It was very different.
Oh, well...


でも昔のように中村座が浅草に戻ってきたなんて、
私もちょっとうれしくなりました。


But I was happy to know that Nakamura-za is back in Asakusa like old days.
