１０景 神田明神曙之景 View 10 Dawn at Kanda Myojin Shrine

早朝の神田明神。

神主さんや巫女さんが東の空を見つめて朝日の昇るのを待っています。

神田明神は湯島台地の東の端に立っていたので、東の眺望が開けていました。

足下に広がる江戸の町並みはまだ灰色。

でも地平線はだんだん赤く色づいています。もうすぐ、まぶしい太陽の光線がぴかりと輝き始めるはずです。

It is a dawn at Kanda Myojin Shrine.  Three figures, keepers of the shrine,  are quietly waiting for the sun rise.  As the shrine stands on the east end of the Yushima Plateau, they have a good view toward east.  The town below is still dark.  But the horizon is glimmering red.  Soon, they will see the beaming sun. 

朝の神社はとっても厳かな感じがしますね。でも縁台がたくさん並んでいるのがわかりますか？ここは眺めがいいので江戸っ子に人気のスポットだったそうですよ。

It looks very quiet in the early morning.  But do you see a lot of wooden benches?  It was a popular viewing spot in Edo.

神田明神は今もあります。秋葉原から徒歩７分。

アキバと呼ばれることも多い秋葉原は、今さら言うまでもありませんが、電器の街、コンピューターの街、アニメ、ゲーム、オタクの街。

でも私にとっては人生初！

秋葉原駅に降り立ちました。

Kanda Myojin is still there, not far from Akihabara, or Akiba, the famous shopping area for electronic, computer, anime, games and otaku goods.

So, for the first time in my life, I got off at Akihabara Station.

びっくりしました！音と色がすごい！！

For me, it was chaos!  So much noise!  Full of colors!

約７分後、神田明神に到着。

ほっ！　(^_^;)

Then, in about 7 minutes, I could breathe again.

神田明神は約１３００年の歴史をもつ古い神社です。

もとは千代田区の将門塚近くにありましたが、１６０３年徳川家康によって現在地に遷されました。江戸総鎮守として幕府、江戸庶民から崇敬を受けました。

ご祭神はだいこく様、えびす様とまさかど様（平将門）の三神です。

The shrine has a long history of 1300 years.  Originally, it was located in present-day Chiyoda-ward.  But in 1603, it was moved to its present site by Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu.  As the Tutelary Shrine of All Edo, it was worshiped by both Tokugawa shogunate and ordinary people.

It enshrines three deities; Daikoku-sama,  Ebisu-sama and Masakado-sama (Taira no Masakado, a samurai in the 10th century).

ちょうど神田祭が近いようでポスターが貼ってありました。５月９～１５日だそうです。

I saw this poster.  Kanda Matsuri Festival is coming very soon (May 9 to 15).

江戸時代神田祭は山王祭りと並んで「天下祭り」と呼ばれていました。（山王祭りは６６景に描かれています。）みこしや山車の長い行列が江戸城内に入り、将軍もご覧になったとか。あまり豪華でお金がかかるので、１６８１年以降は山王祭りと１年おきに交互に行われました。

In the time of Edo, it was such a grand festival.  A long procession was allowed to enter castle ground to be seen by Shogun, an honor shared only with Sanno Festival (see View 66).   Kanda Festival and Sanno Festival were held alternately every year. 

神田祭も見てみたいけれど、人でごった返していそうですね。

I would like to see it myself.  But it will be very crowded.  

みこしは見ることができました。

But I could see these mikoshi (portable shrines).

力石　Chikara-ishi (strength stone)

神田仲町２丁目の柴田四郎右衛門が文政５年（１８２２年）１２月に持ち上げたと彫ってあります。
どんな人だったんでしょうね？

According to the engraving, Shibata Shiroemon in Kanda, Nakamachi 2-chome lifted this rock in 1822.  
I wonder what he was like.

銭形平次の碑　Monument to Zenigata Heiji 

ご存知銭形平次は神田明神下暮らし。碑の足下は平次の投げた寛永通宝の形をしています。

Zenigata Heiji is a hero of a series of TV drama set in Edo period.  He is a sort of a policeman who lives near Kanda Myojin.  He catches criminals by throwing coins.  So, the monument stands atop a replica of Heiji's coin.

でも今回なんといっても驚いたのは絵馬です！
絵馬といっても普通の絵馬とは違うんですよ！

But what most fascinated me there was these Ema.
Ema is a little wooden tablet you write your wish and prayers and hang up at shrines.
But these Ema were no ordinary Ema.

驚きました。皆さん、力作ですね。
痛車や痛ギターは聞いたことがありましたが、
さてこれは痛絵馬というんでしょうか？
秋葉原パワーが進出してきているようで、面白かったです。

I have heard of Ita-sha (Ita-car) and Ita-guitar.
Can I call these Ita-ema? (^_-)
Akihabara power is moving into Kanda Myojin Shrine.

境内の東端にはこんな急な階段がありました。

Now, where shall I take today's photo?
I went east and saw long steep steps.

男坂　Otoko-zaka

眺めがよくて、昔はここで月見の会が催されたりしたんだそうです。階段の左脇には由緒正しげな大イチョウの切り株とその横にイチョウの木。

I learned, in old days people enjoyed moon viewing from here.  On its left, are a gingko tree and an old tree-stump.

ということでここに決めました！

So, I've decided this is it.

高いビルがにょきにょきしているので、街を見下ろすというわけにはいきませんでした。

Because of high buildings, it wasn't like looking down on the city.
