11景 上野清水堂不忍ノ池 Ueno Kiyomizu-do Shinobazuno- Ike

上野の春の景色です。

不忍池が広がっています。

桜も満開。

多くの人が花見を楽しんでいるようです。

This is a spring view of Ueno.

You can see the big pond of Shinobazuno-ike.

Cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

Many people are strolling, admiring the flowers.

今上野公園がある一帯は、江戸時代には寛永寺の広大な敷地でした。

寛永寺は１６２５年三代将軍家光の許しを受けて建立され、徳川家の菩提寺として繁栄をきわめました。

明治になってその土地の多くは政府に没収されましたが、寛永寺は今も一角に残っています。

In Edo era, Kan-eiji Temple owned much of the land which is now Ueno Park.

Established in 1625 with the permission of the third Shogun Iemitsu, the temple served for the Tokugawa family、and thus enjoyed the prosperity.

But it lost much of the land when the Meiji goverment took over the power.

Today, Kan-eiji temple is on the corner of the Ueno Park.

ここはとてもひっそり。

It stands very quietly.

門にも瓦にも葵の紋が。

The seal of Tokugawa Shogun, hollyhock, can be seen on the gate and also on the roof.

篤姫のお墓もこちらにあるそうですが残念ながら未公開。（貼ってあった写真の写真。）

The grave of Princess Atsuhime, who became very popular owing to the NHK drama in 2008, is in Kan-eiji temple. 

But it's not open for public. (I took the picture of the picture on the wall.)

さて、上野公園の山の上に建つ清水堂ですが、ここももとは寛永寺の敷地でした。

京都の清水寺を模して、１６３１年に建てられたものです。

Now, Kiyomizu-do stands on the top of the mountain in the Ueno Park.

But it was the land of Kan-eiji Temple.

It was built in 1631, modeled after the famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto.

有名な清水の舞台 (でもミニサイズ）

不忍池は眺められません。

You can't see the pond.

同じように撮ってみました。比べてみましょう。

I tried to take the picture as close to the picture of Hiroshige as I could.

広重さんの視点はまるで鳥のように高すぎます。

ちょっとずるい…。

Hiroshige's view point is too high, as if he was flying like a bird.

That's not fair, Hiroshige!
