ここに描かれているのは、江戸時代初期に掘られた玉川上水です。
その堤に桜が咲きそろっていますね。いろんな人が花見を楽しんでいます。
青い水とピンクの桜がきれいですね。
The river in this picture is the channel dug in the early Edo era.
It was called Tamagawa Josui (waterworks).
Along its bank, cherry blossoms are in full bloom.
People are enjoying the beautiful flowers.
The blue water and the pink flowers...beautiful, isn't it?
この上水は四ツ谷大木戸の水番所で管理されていました。
今は四ツ谷４丁目交差点のところに「水道碑記（すいどういしぶみのき）」という巨大な石碑があります。
玉川上水の歴史などがかかれているそうですが、読めません
In Edo era,the water was monitored by a watchman at Yotsuya Okido.
Now, a big stone monument, which explains the history of Tamagawa Josui, stands at the Yotsuya 4 Chome Intersection.
Now, at Yotsuya Okido, stands Water Works Bureau Shinjuku Service Station.
In a way, it is still watching over the Tokyo water system .
明治３９年からは皇室の庭園となり、第二次世界大戦後一般に公開されました。
そう、今の新宿御苑です。
On the left of the Hiroshige's picture, you can see the tip of a manshion.
It belonged to Daimyo (feudal lord) Naito during Hiroshige's time.
In 1906, it became Imperial Garden.
After WWⅡ, it was opened to public.
Now, it is called Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

これは江戸時代に完成した内藤家の庭園。
Inside the park.
This is the old garden from Daimyo Naito's time.
This is the English Landscape Garden.
A lot of people were enjoying the warm autumn sun.
フランス式整形庭園。
すばらしいバラの香り。
This is the French Formal Garden.
Fragrant roses are blooming beautifully.
When I was walking through the Japanese garden, I saw plantsmen working on amazing chrysanthemums.
そして６００輪もの花が咲いています、しかも同時に！
I couldn't believe my eyes!
In each pot, there is one plant growing in a domed shape.
And more than 600 flowers are blooming!
At the same time!
菊花壇展の準備をしていたようです。
菊花壇展は１１月１日～１５日、９時～１６時です。
もしよかったらぜひ行ってみてくださいね。
I have no idea how they do that.
I learned they are having their annual Chrysanthemum Exhibition.
November 1-15, from 9:00 to 16:00.

日本庭園を歩いていると、植木職人の方が驚くような菊の手入れをしていました。

ちょっと信じられないような菊！
一本の菊が巨大なドーム型に仕立てられています。そして６００輪もの花が咲いています、しかも同時に！

小川に沿って歩きながら、平和なお花見を楽しんでいた江戸の人々を想像するのも楽しいかもしれません。

The Tamagawa Josui in this area is now long gone, but the city is making the memorial promenade outside the Shinjuku Gyoen.
It might be fun to walk along the river and think of the Edo people enjoying their peaceful walk.
