Grand Sumo Tournament

I went to Ryogoku to take some pictures.
But I wasn't planning to watch the Sumo Tournament.

でも…

Then, I saw...

beautiful banners with Sumo wrestlers' names,

and many wrestlers walking on the street.

I felt like watching Sumo.

Grand Sumo Tournaments are held six times a year.
From 8th to 22nd this month, they are holding their 2012 January Grand Sumo Tournament in Kokugikan in Ryogoku, Tokyo.

A good thing about visiting places alone is that you are free.
You are free to do whatever you feel like,
and eat whatever you feel like.

So, I decided to watch Sumo.

Kokugikan is very huge.

The wrestlers looked very strong and courteous.
The arena was filled with excitement as people started cheering for their favorite wrestlers.

豊真将 my favorite wrestler Homasho❤

It was quite exciting and interesting.

As Sumo has a long history of some 1500 years, they have many interesting ceremonies.

This is Dohyo-iri, or "entering the ring" ceremony, which starts around 3:50.

This is the Yokozuna Grand Champion's ring entrance, which starts around 3:55.
Yokozuna Hakuho

This is the bow dance, which is performed after the final bout (about 6:00).

The day is concluded by the drumming on the high tower.

It turned out to be a very interesting day.

By the way, I have one recommendation if you are to be there.

They are serving special Chanko (sumo wrestlers' food) between 12:00 to 4:00 at the underground hall, only for 250 yen for a  bowl.

That day, they had curry Chanko.
It had many ingredients such as pork, daikon, green onions, carrots, burdock, hakusai, enoki mushrooms, nira, aburage, and yakidofu.

It was sooooo good!
