A Happy New Year!

Long time no see!
Maybe you were wondering if I was hibernating. (^_-)
Well, I was just enjoying my every day life, visiting my parents in Matsuyama, attending my nephew's wedding, going to Kodo concert for the first time, Christmas, and New Year's get-together.

Every year for the New Year, I make a traditional Japanese  food called Osechi.
It's in wooden boxes called Jubako.

My Jubako is three-tier boxes.

I'm quite happy with this year's Osechi. (^^)

Best wishes for a happy 2015!

- Happy New Year!

I'm glad you can come out of your blog hibernation to say hello. :) I know, life is a very tough thing to manage if you have a net life too. I'm in the same boat these days. ;)

I'm not a big fan of osechi, but I saw this on TV and liked the Japanese style one. I wouldn't mind trying this myself.

Dru,

That Osechi looks gorgeous, and it must taste sooo good! And the price seems quite reasonable, if you compare it to Department or Hotel one.

But I think the hardest part, and also the fun part, is how you put the food into a box beautifully. I want to see your osechi, next year, please!(^^)

Not sure if I'd make an osechi next year. I have never made one. I just go out or just keep things simple. With restaurants open in Tokyo, there really isn't any need to make osechi.

Dru,

These days, I heard less and less people are having osechi on New Year's Day. As you said, many restaurants are open, and many supermarkets are open just like any other day. So, there isn't really any need for osechi.

But osechi is one thing that makes the day special. And many food in osechi convey our wish for happiness. I hope to hand down the tradition to my children.

Handing down traditions isn't easy these days. It requires work and effort. Sigh.

I'm sure you can hand down traditions. It isn't easy but you can do it. You just have to make it fun for them. Start thinking of how to do it so they enjoy it. :)

Dru,

It's a bit too late for my boys, 25 and 24. I will try it when I become a granny. My older son is getting married this September. (^^)

Congratulations to your older son. I'm sure your grand kids will take to the traditions, although give them another 10 years and they may be begging you to teach them the traditions.

I think once you are in your 30s, you want to connect more. This is especially true if you don't live nearby. Good luck either way!

Dru,

Thank you! I think you are totally right about wanting to connect more when you grow older. I'm patiently waiting for my sons to grow. (^^)
