View 90 Ueno Mountain Matsu of the Moon (Revisited)

This is Ueno and we are looking at Shinobazu Pond.
The red building on the small island on the right is Benten Shrine.
I wrote about this View 90 about two years ago here.

At that time, I had hard time deciding where to take the final photo, because this pine tree called Matsu of the Moon, or Moon Pine, was no longer there.
It was broken down by a typhoon about 150 years ago.

But last year, one of my friend sent me a clipping from a newspaper and taught me that they were planting a new Moon Pine!

Finally, the other day, I made it to Kiyomizu-do in Ueno Park to see the tree. \(^o^)/

Ooooh!  That's the tree!

But when you look at it closely,

well..., they are giving the tree the hard time...?

According to the paper, a priest at the Kiyomizu-do had this idea of replanting the Moon Pine and asked his friend/gardener more than four years ago.  They set a round iron pipe, 1.5 meter in diameter, on a tree and guided the branch to form a circle.  It wasn't easy, they say.

Though I'm not sure if this is any better than the old photo, this is the photo of the day.

Maybe it'll be a  majestic Moon Pine in , say, 100 years?

Oh heavens look at that tree! @_@ I've just realized that I haven't walked past this specific temple in a long time, though I often walk through Ueno Park (along a different route). It's time for another visit, methinks, to check this out.

I feel a bit sorry for the tree, but if the gardeners/artists were very gentle and patient with it, I guess it's OK.

Today's funny language story: my Chrome browser automatically translates Japanese text unless I tell it to stop. Do you know how it translates Kiyomizu-do? "Fresh water dough". Dough?! Let's bake bread! :D

Rurousha,
I suppose those gardeners/artists know what they are doing. They have a long- term vision. methinks. (^_-)

"Fresh water dough"?? What kind of bread would that be? (^o^)

cquek,
If you stand on the veranda of this Kiyomizu-do, you can see Benzaiten Shrine in the Shinobazu Pond right through this new Moon Pine. I think that is neat. (^_^)v
